CAIN: DISTORTIONS

In the depths of the psychic sea, many things lurk under the collective subconscious: drifters between worlds, sins born from trauma, the stains of humanity.

As an exorcist, you are tasked with eliminating them.

But how are you to eliminate the stain, when you yourself are indelibly stained? Beyond sin marks and imagoes, there is a sickness lurking within the depths of every exorcist. It frays at an exorcist's sanity, grows bolder as its host weakens. And it wants to take control.

The hunter loves nothing, not even themself. Now you'll see why.

DISTORTIONS is a homebrew supplement for the TTRPG CAIN by Tom Bloom, diving into the darkness that inhabits the mind of exorcists. Directly inspired by Shadows from both Persona 4: Golden and Wraith: the Oblivion, this expansion features:

• Distortions, mini-bosses that intrude on existing sin hunts with their own Distorted Palaces, agenda, and abilities
• A new agenda representing when your other self overcomes your mind and subsumes your psyche
• 35 new Trauma Questions the Distortion can use against their host, forcing them to reveal truths they'd rather keep hidden
• 40 new distorted domains that function as bastardized, counter-blasphemies that Distortions turn against their host
• A way to retain your humanity despite going Imago... For a time
• BONUS Reverence rules, a conversion framework to allow Binders access to these anti-CAIN counter-blasphemies

This supplement distorts the core 12 blasphemies and 18 agendas. A future expansion may incorporate those featured in Games for Freaks Issues or other homebrew expansions, but none of that is confirmed.

I have a setting guide for CAIN in the works, but that won't release for some time. An updated version of DISTORTIONS will likely be included in it, alongside distorted domains for the GFF3 blasphemies if they're free at that time.
